Here are a few tip when purchasing a used hot tub:
See it working. Before you put cash on the table, make sure you see the hot tub in action. See it at the seller's location. Once it's turned on, take a few minutes to make sure nothing odd happens – for example, weird noises and of course leaking water.
Look at the filter.Make sure to inspect the cartridge filter thoroughly. If it's torn or worn out, you will need to replace it. Although a new filter cartridge is not very expensive, it will give you a clue as to the owner's care in the past. When a hot tub filter is neglected, it can lead to expensive equipment replacement.
Look at the thermostat. While it is running, check hot tub's thermostat. If it is not working properly, it will be unsafe to use the hot tub. Generally, the water temperature should be between 100 and 104 degrees. If the temperature is low, means a problem with the heater.
No PuddlesA leaking tub reduces your enjoyment - duh! While looking at the thermostat, make sure to check out all the spa's seals. If any are leaking, they'll need to be replaced. Also check under the cabinet for dripping water or puddles. Calcium stains are evidence of previous leaks.
If you notice any of these problems, you'll need a repair estimate before buying.
Don't forget to factor in the cost and hassle of moving a hot tub into your buying equation.
Of course you will eliminate all these issues, problems and unknowns if you purchase a pre-owned hot tub from Northcoast.
